Steps to build a strong personal brand online being a solopreneur
Once you defined all the main components of your brand, it’s time to put there into practice.
1. Define your brand message and values
In this step, you have to define what set you apart from others.
- Why you are different?
- What do you have that others don’t?
You have to make yourself these questions and answer them explicitly.
Normally you could put your brand values and message on your Twitter or Instagram biography. So users who visit your profile will see what you are and what you have to offer.
For example, Fintiux’s brand message is focused on helping solopreneurs build profitable businesses through actionable tips, stories, resources, and information.
2. Define a niche. (Niche in, then niche out)
If you are thinking on create a brand, probably you already have a niche. But sometimes a niche could be too big for someone who is starting an online brand. So, the best you can do is start on a microniche and then scale from there.
One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make is trying to outcompete everyone in the same niche. The key to success is to find a small target audience to focus on and truly understand their needs and problems.
By showing your expertise in that small niche, you can build a name for yourself and gain word-of-mouth marketing.
Once you’ve established some authority in that microniche, you can start to expand your offerings to cater to a larger audience.
3. Define the platforms
Building a following on social media can be a daunting task. There are so many platforms and algorithms to navigate.
So, focusing on one platform at a time (maximum 2) to grow your audience is the key.
By concentrating your efforts on building a following on one platform, you can gain valuable insights into what works and what doesn’t and grow faster.
When you already create a big audience on one platform, you can move to another and use the first platform to accelerate your growth on the new one.
For example, on Fintiux, I am growing on Twitter and the blog, someday I will move to Instagram, LinkedIn, or youtube, but now the focus is here.
4. Create a Visual Identity
It’s about choosing colors and photos to show you and your business in a similar way across all platforms.
Creating an avatar or a good profile photo is essential for your personal brand as a solopreneur. Preferably use a photo of yourself on social media, but if you want to keep anonymous, you could create an avatar.
On your website, you should have a logo and some colors that define your and your business’s identity.
5. Generate value content
This is the most important step. You can have everything great, but if you don’t give people value content, they won’t follow you.
Add value to your content, make a good research, and organize it on your blog making it easy to find and understand.
When people find value in your blog, Twitter, Instagram, or whatever platform you use, they will put you as an authority in this niche and will start to follow you.
6. Generate engagement and Networking
Networking it’s important when you are creating an online brand. Join forums and groups to connect with people in your industry will help.
Sharing information and answering questions about the industry will enhance your authority as someone who knows your niche.
Answering the comments on your posts on social media or articles will help to engage with your audience and loyalty.
7. Consistency and perseverance
Be persevering. This will not happen overnight.
It can take weeks or a few months for your audience to start growing exponentially. But if you stay constant and generating valuable content, it will happen.
Require a lot of discipline when things don’t work, but you have to keep working and not give up.
Keep you working and improving your expertise on your niche to improve your content and work. Things will happen.
